Skylar Yu
Skylar Yu began her journey with FadaDance in 2009 when she was 3 years old. As of 2026, she is a UofR Arts Ed student starting her fourth year as a Fada instructor, and her third year dancing with the FadaDance Troupe Emerging Ensemble!
Starting out as a FadaDance Youth Company dancer, Skylar performed in Arrivals/Departures (2022) and Rivulets (2023). In her final year with the Youth Company, she performed in Unravel & Thread (2024) where she had the memorable opportunity to travel to Toronto and learn from the classical dance form ‘Kathak’ shared by the renowned Joanna De Souza. Now as an emerging dance artist, Skylar has created and danced in Rhythm Dust (2025), and most recently, danced in a co-choreographed duet for Woolgathering (2026) and helped co-create a piece for the Youth Company dancers.
Being a mentor and keys instructor at Amplify Regina (formerly known as GRR! Rock Camp) since 2022, Skylar knows the importance of empowering youth to assert themselves through their art. When she sees young dancers and musicians create, Skylar is proud to be a part of their artistic journeys and hopes to provide them with the same encouragement and inclusivity that she has valued growing up under her own mentors. When Skylar isn’t at the dance studio, she is jamming, gigging and recording as a keyboardist in her bands, Zoë James & The Wistful Daydreams, and August Figures.
Since graduating high school as an involved member of the Campbell Collegiate Queer-Straight Alliance Club, Skylar takes to heart the hard work that goes into creating inclusive and safe environments in Regina. She is now a member of Art For Change (2022–present), an upcoming non-profit organization raising money towards local initiatives and aiming to empower and uplift the community to make change through the power of art and music.
Skylar is ready to keep making noise and to dance her heart out this 2026–2027 FadaDance season!
